Indian equities extended gains on Wednesday on the back of Modi speech and encouraging GDP data. IT and technology stocks witnessed a gain whereas FMCG stocks registered a fall.
At 11.31 a.m., the Sensex was trading up 140.25 points or 0.52% at 27,159.64. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 43.50 points or 0.54% at 8,126.55.
Top gainers were Bharti Airtel (3.73%), TCS (2.56%), Wipro (2.32%) and Infosys (2.31%)
Major losers were GAIL (1.85%), Hero Motocorp (1.30%), ITC (1.16%) and ICICI Bank (0.76%)
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.73% and 0.80% respectively.
The IT index was at 10,361, up by 218.76 points or by 2.16%. The TECk index was at 5,797.02, up by 119.33 points or by 2.10%.
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 7,397.46, down by 9.34 points or by 0.13%.
