The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Jan Dhan Yojana' on Thursday that entails providing a bank account to every Indian family. 'It is our commitment to provide each and every citizen of India with access to banking facilities,' the Prime Minister said.
'This may be a record even in the banking sector. The biggest strength is it will boost confidence of those sitting in Governments too,' Modi said.
'If we want to get free from poverty we need to end financial untouchability. All these efforts are for the poor and to become free from poverty,' The Prime Minister said
When a bank account is opened, its a step towards joining the economic mainstream. When these bank accounts are opened, imagine the difference it will make in the lives of women. They will bless us,' Modi added.
'With JanDhanYojna, we aim to reach 7.5 crore people across India by Jan 26, 2015,' Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.
'Jan Dhan Yojana to be carried out on mission mode,' the Finance Minister said. 'This scheme is for the entire nation.'
Nirmala Sitharaman, minister of state said, 'We aim to cover each and every household with JanDhanYojna.'
A total of 15 million bank accounts were opened today as a part of Jan Dhan Yojana.
