The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of June 2014 at 121.5, was 4.3% higher as compared to June 2013. The cumulative growth for the period April-June 2014-15 over the corresponding period of previous year stands at (+) 3.2%.
The total value of mineral prduction (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during June 2014 was Rs 176.15 billion. The contribution of: coal was the highest at Rs 58.82 billion (33%). Next in the order of importance were: petroleum (crude) Rs 57.06 billion, iron ore Rs 23.60 billion, natural gas (utilized) Rs 18.09 billion, lignite Rs 4.90 billion and limestone Rs 4.03 billion. These six minerals together contributed about 95% of the total value of mineral production in June 2014.
Production level of important minerals in June 2014 were: coal 44.1 million tons, lignite 4.3 million tons, natural gas (utilized) 2826 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 3.1 million tonnes, bauxite 1780 thousand tons, chromite 241 thousand tons, copper conc. 9 thousand tonnes, gold 131 kg., iron ore 117 lakh tonnes, lead conc. 15 thousand tons, manganese ore 224 thousand tons, zinc conc. 102 thousand tons, apatite & phosphorite 151 thousand tons, dolomite 605 thousand tons, limestone 238 lakh tons, magnesite 22 thousand tons and diamond 3916 carat.
