Indian banking's deposit and credit growth diverge: Anand Rathi

For the fortnight ending Aug.08,2014, credit growth decelerated sharply to 11.6%, from 13.3% the earlier fortnight. On the other hand, deposit growth increased to 13.9% from 13.0%, according to Anand Rathi Research.

''The credit-deposit ratio decreased 40bps against the previous fortnight, to 76.1%. SLR investments grew 10.5% yoy, well above the 6.6% of the previous fortnight. SLR, as percent of NDTL increased 30bps from the previous fortnight to 27.3%,'' it said.

''Deposit growth for the fortnight under consideration increased to 13.9% yoy, against 13.0% the prior fortnight driven by both demand and time deposits. While demand deposits grew at 13.0% yoy, against 9.2% the previous fortnight, growth in time deposits increased to 14.0% compared to 13.4% in the previous fortnight,'' it added.
