PDF Solutions (PDFS), a provider of yield improvement technologies and services for the integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process life cycle, has reported a 3.16 percent rise in profit for the quarter ended Jun. 30, 2014. The company earned $4.70 million or $0.15 a share in the second-quarter compared with $4.55 million or $0.15 a share a year ago.

Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share came at $0.28 a share when analysts expected $0.32 a share.

Revenue during the second-quarter went down marginally 0.67 percent to $24.61 million from $24.78 million in the last year period.

Gross margin expanded by 337 basis points over the last year period to 64.05 percent. Total expenses as a percentage of revenues decreased to 68.50 percent from 70.06 percent in the same period last year. That has resulted in improvement of 156 basis points in operating margins to 31.50 percent.

The company posted operating income of $7.75 million, compared with $7.42 million in the previous year period.

Cash Position

As on Jun. 30, 2014, the company's cash balance stood at $106.91 million, up 39.26 percent or $30.14 million from Jun. 30, 2013.

Working Capital

PDF Solutions has witnessed an increase in the working capital over the last one year. The company's working capital stood at $134.92 million as at Jun. 30, 2014, up $34.47 million or 34.31 percent from $100.46 million on Jun. 30, 2013. It registered an increase in current ratio to 12.06 as at Jun. 30, 2014 from 8.51 on Jun. 30, 2013.

Shares of the company gained 28 cents or 1.40 percent to close at $20.30 on Monday.
