Indian markets settled lower on Monday led by losses in realty, metal and oil & gas stocks whereas consumer durable stocks registered a gain.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 135.52 points or 0.52% at 25,991.23 with 21 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 47.30 points or 0.61% at 7,743.15 with 36 components posting drop.
Major losers were Coal India (3.14%), Hindalco (2.06%), Tata Motors (1.89%), and Tata Steel (1.72%).
Top gainers were Hindustan Unilever (3.69%), Sun Phrama (1.33%), BHEL (1.17%), and Wipro (0.86%).
The BSE Midcap index was at 9139.22 down by 38.99 points or by 0.42%.
The Realty index was at 1,873.16, down by 51.84 points or by 2.69%. The Metal index was at 13,000.85, down by 199.25 points or by 1.51%. The Oil & Gas index was at 10,704.62, down by 139.35 points or by 1.29%.
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 8,516.11, up by 48.26 points or by 0.57%.
