Indian equities settled lower on Friday due to sustained selling pressure seen in realty, power and metal stocks. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 182.96 points or 0.70 percent at 26,088.89 with 23 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty fell by 40.15 points or 0.51 percent at 7,790.45 with 39 components posting drop.
Major losers were Tata Motors (5.7 percent), Wipro (4.66 percent), BHEL (4.06 percent), and Hindalco (3.24 percent). Top gainers were Sun Pharma (4.44 percent), HUL (2.44 percent), HDFC (2.4 percent), and Hero Motocorp (1.79 percent). The BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 1.31 percent and 1.96 percent respectively.
The Realty index was at 1,922.65, down by 55.32 points or by 2.8 percent. The major losers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (5.12 percent), Anant Raj (4.98 percent), Indiabulls Real Estate (4.82 percent), D L F (4.57 percent) and Godrej Properties (2.18 percent).
The Metal index was at 13,176.69, down by 338.59 points or by 2.51 percent. The major losers were Jindal Steel & Power (3.99 percent), JSW Steel (3.75 percent), Hindustan Zinc (3.65 percent), Hindalco Industries (3.24 percent) and Coal India (2.36 percent).
The Power index was at 2,152.93, down by 42.92 points or by 1.95 percent. The major losers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.06 percent), Reliance Infrastructure (3.43 percent), Adani Power (3.28 percent), C E S C (2.69 percent) and A B B India (0.78 percent).
On the other hand, the HC index was at 12,127.37, up by 216.11 points or by 1.81 percent. The major gainers were Glenmark Pharmaceutical (6.83 percent), Cadila Healthcare (2.03 percent), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (1.09 percent), Cipla (0.97 percent) and Glaxo SmithKline Pharmaceuticals (0.14 percent).
