Tata Power's generation capacity up by 24% in FY14

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, generated 45,210 MUs (million units) of power collectively from all its power plants in the year 2013- 2014, compared to 34,683 MUs in the previous fiscal. This marks a significant 24% increase in generation, with the total power generation capacity of Tata Power standing at 8613 MW from various fuel sources such as thermal (coal, gas and oil), hydroelectric power, renewable energy (wind and solar PV) and waste heat recovery, thereby reinforcing its position as the largest integrated power company in India.

Surpassing the set benchmark of the previous fiscal, Coastal Gujarat Power (CGPL) and Maithon Power Limited (MPL) have contributed substantially to the company's increase in generation capacity. By 2022, Tata Power aims to boost the generation capacity of CGPL and MPL to 18000 MW and 4000 MW of distribution respectively.

The company also has a significant presence in the clean energy space with a gross installed capacity of 1206 MW. Today, Tata Power has a total operating capacity of 461 MW from Wind farms and 54 MW in Solar Generation. In addition, the Company has 447 of hydro and 240 MW from waste gas-based generation.

Commenting on this development, Anil Sardana, MD, Tata Power, said, ''We at Tata Power are in the process of executing a number of power projects and aim to generate 18,000 MW by 2022 as well as additional 4000 MW of management of distribution networks. We are delighted that we have crossed the 45,000 MUs benchmark of power generation which marks a milestone in the history of the Company. We will continue in our endeavors to further strengthen our operations with excellence and optimally utilise our resources to achieve the set targets.''

Shares of the company declined Rs 1.3, or 1.25%, to settle at Rs 103.05. The total volume of shares traded was 420,750 at the BSE (Wednesday).
