Indian markets settled on a cheerful note on Tuesday on the back of sustained capital inflows and good corporate earnings. Technology, IT and oil & gas stocks witnessed a gain whereas capital goods stocks registered a fall.
At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex added 310.63 points or 1.21% at 26,025.80 with 25 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty climbed by 83.65 points or 1.09% at 7,767.85 with 35 components registering rise.
Top gainers were Bharti Airtel (4.81%), RIL (3.35%), HDFC (2.93%) and TCS (2.71%).
Top losers were Maruti Suzuki (1%), L&T (0.92%), M&M (0.51%) and BHEL (0.32%).
The BSE Midcap settled higher 10.67 points or 0.11% at 9311.09 however the Bse Smallcap dropped 0.83 points or 0.01% at 10,624.24 at the closing.
The TECk index was at 5,387.62, up by 106.56 points or by 2.02%. The IT index was at 9,541.37, up by 167.23 points or by 1.78%. The Oil & Gas index was at 11,022.89, up by 188.27 points or by 1.74%.
On the other hand, the Capital Goods index was at 15,727.41, down by 108.67 points or by 0.69%.
