Indian equities are trading on flat note on Thursday ahead of Union Budget 2014-15. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is going to announce NDA government's first Union Budget shortly. Healthcare, technology and FMCG stocks witnessed a fall whereas metal stocks registered a gain.
At 10.22 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 11.69 points or 0.05% at 25,433.12 with 15 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 8.20 points or 0.11% at 7,576.80 with 26 components falling.
Top gainers were Coal India (2.08%), HDFC (1.83%), NTPC (1.50%) and Tata Power (1.46%).
Top losers were M&M (1.71%), Cipla (1.57%), Dr Reddy's Laboratories (1.21%) and TCS (1.08%).
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts declining -0.34% and -0.70% respectively.
The HC index was at 11,504.33, down by 96.2 points or by 0.83%. The TECk index was at 5,214.39, down by 27.47 points or by 0.52%. The FMCG index was at 6,826.09, down by 32.28 points or by 0.47%.
On the other hand, the Metal index was at 12,895.07, up by 86.49 points or by 0.68%.
