Reliance Infrastructure, a part of Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and one of the largest infrastructure companies, announced the appointment of M S Mehta as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the company, with effect from July 7, 2014. He will take over as CEO from Lalit Jalan, who held the portfolio for the past more than seven years.
The company also elevated Lalit Jalan as director - corporate strategy and affairs, with effect from July 7, 2014. He will steer future growth initiatives and efforts of the Group with this new responsibility.
Mehta was till recently the Group CEO of Vedanta Resources for five years. In his tenure of 14 years in Vedanta he was instrumental in steering the Group into the leadership ranks of the top 5 natural resources players in the world.
Shares of the company gained Rs 5.65, or 0.71%, to trade at Rs 796.45. The total volume of shares traded was 35,870 at the BSE (9.41 a.m., Monday).
