Sensex flat in early trade; Bhel up, Reliance down

Indian equities are trading on a flat note in opening session on Friday. At 9.18 am, the Sensex was trading down 29.17 points or 0.13% at 22,847.37 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 16.15 points or 0.24% at 6,856.95 with 24 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 15.96 points or 0.07% at 22,892.50.

Sensex Movers

Reliance Industries contributed fall of 34.12 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (19.79 points), Larsen & Toubro (8.87 points), H D F C Bank (7.73 points) and State Bank Of India (5.39 points).

However, Housing Development Finance Corporation contributed rise of 17 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (7.5 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (6.74 points), Infosys (6.63 points) and Bharti Airtel (4.79 points).

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.01%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.54%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.96%), Bharti Airtel (0.86%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.63%), and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.50%).

On the other hand, Reliance Industries (1.74%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.09%), Hindalco Industries (0.97%), I T C (0.81%), Larsen & Toubro (0.77%), and State Bank Of India (0.62%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Sectors in Limelight

The Oil & Gas index was at 9,678.61, down by 133.85 points or by 1.36%. The major losers were Cairn India (4.6%), Petronet LNG (1.58%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.79%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (0.61%) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.38%).

The FMCG index was at 6,946.25, down by 31.8 points or by 0.46%. The major losers were I T C (0.81%), Dabur India (0.73%), Colgate-Palmolive (India) (0.42%), Hindustan Unilever (0.35%) and Godrej Consumer Products (0.01%).

The Consumer Durables index was at 6,591.57, down by 12.68 points or by 0.19%. The major losers were Whirlpool Of India (100%), Rajesh Exports (100%), Blue Star (3.71%), Titan Company (0.37%) and Symphony (0.19%).

On the other hand, the HC index was at 10,635.78, up by 64.17 points or by 0.61%. The major gainers were Biocon (1.99%), Cadila Healthcare (1.36%), Aurobindo Pharma (1.03%), Divis Laboratories (0.57%) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (0.53%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 512 advances against 268 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Future Retail topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 21.31 million. It was followed by Cairn India (Rs. 19.09 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 18.75 million) and Axis Bank (Rs. 16.99 million).

The volume chart was led by Ybrant Digital with trades of over 0.26 million shares. It was followed by Inventure Growth and Securities (0.25 million), Kingfisher Airlines (0.20 million) and Future Retail (0.17 million).
