Indian equities continued to trade in a range bound manner on Monday. Capital goods, metal and auto stocks witnessed a rise whereas FMCG stocks registered a fall.
At 1.39 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 69.92 points or 0.31% at 22,698.76 with 19 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 14.50 points or 0.21% at 6,793.90 with 34 components gaining.
Sensex Movers
Larsen & Toubro contributed rise of 41.74 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Mahindra & Mahindra (20.42 points), State Bank Of India (12.66 points), Bharat Heavy Electricals (8.11 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (6.51 points).
However, I T C contributed fall of 17.95 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Wipro (17.37 points), Hindustan Unilever (8.69 points), Infosys (5.28 points) and H D F C Bank (4.36 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Larsen & Toubro (3.66%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.65%), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.51%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.11%), State Bank Of India (1.47%), and Hindalco Industries (1.42%).
On the other hand, Wipro (5.46%), Hindustan Unilever (1.19%), I T C (0.74%), Cipla (0.54%), Infosys (0.34%), and H D F C Bank (0.24%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.82% and 1.21% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A I A Engineering (5.1%), Alstom India (1.73%), A B G Shipyard (1.68%), CORE Education and Technologies (1.08%) and Allahabad Bank (0.9%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Aarti Industries (4.33%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (1.96%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.72%), Dr Datsons Labs (1.1%) and Trident (0.37%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Capital Goods index was at 12,419.11, up by 344.61 points or by 2.85%. The major gainers were A I A Engineering (5.1%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.65%), Alstom India (1.73%), Alstom T&D India (1.38%) and Bharat Electronics (0.61%).
The Metal index was at 10,397.97, up by 131.25 points or by 1.28%. The major gainers were JSW Steel (3.56%), Hindalco Industries (1.42%), Coal India (1.07%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.68%) and Bhushan Steel (0.18%).
The Auto index was at 13,666.79, up by 172.17 points or by 1.28%. The major gainers were Ashok Leyland (4.99%), Exide Industries (2.46%), Bharat Forge (1.56%), Hero Motocorp (0.98%) and Bajaj Auto (0.58%).
On the other hand, the FMCG index was at 6,959.53, down by 49.81 points or by 0.71%. The major losers were Godrej Consumer Products (1.45%), Hindustan Unilever (1.19%), Jubilant FoodWorks (0.8%), I T C (0.74%) and Dabur India (0.22%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was positive with 1,665 advances against 1,010 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Biocon topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 599.20 million. It was followed by Multi Commodity Exchange of India (Rs. 352.76 million), Adani Enterprises (Rs. 294.96 million) and H C L Infosystems (Rs. 286.43 million).
The volume chart was led by H C L Infosystems with trades of over 5.28 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (3.93 million), Suzlon Energy (2.77 million) and Hotel Leela Venture (1.50 million).
