India VIX signals surge in market volatility

India VIX, a volatility index, surged on Monday. It is currently trading at 35.67, up 15.62% from 30.85. It witnessed a high of 38.04 and low of 30.85 after opening at 30.85 (at 12.29 pm).

Volatility Index is a measure of market's expectation of volatility over the near term. Usually, during periods of market volatility, market moves steeply up or down and the volatility index tends to rise. As volatility subsides, volatility index declines.

India VIX is a volatility index based on the Nifty Index Option prices. From the best bid-ask prices of Nifty Options contracts, a volatility figure is calculated which indicates the expected market volatility over the next 30 calendar days.
