CAG can audit telecos' books: SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday said the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) can audit the books of telecom companies.

Telecom firms had challenged Delhi High Court order on CAG audit in the apex court. The SC has uphold decision of Delhi High Court order in the matter.

Telecom companies are bound to share all account books with CAG. CAG has powers to audit telecom firms' revenue share with the government to see whether the government is getting its due share or not.

Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications are the top players in the telecom industry.

Shares of Reliance Communications gained Rs 2.15, or 1.66%, to trade at Rs 131.85. The total volume of shares traded was 391,153 at the BSE (11.03 a.m., Thursday).

Shares of Idea Cellular gained Rs 1, or 0.73%, to trade at Rs 138.85. The total volume of shares traded was 104,849 at the BSE (11.03 a.m., Thursday).

Shares of Bharti Airtel gained Rs 0.5, or 0.15%, to trade at Rs 323.80. The total volume of shares traded was 53,703 at the BSE (11.03 a.m., Thursday).
