Indian markets are trading flat on Wednesday. Bank, consumer durables and metal stocks witnessed a rise whereas IT stocks registered a fall. At 10.04 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 9.00 points or 0.04% at 22,493.93 with 21 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 0.75 points or 0.01% at 6,732.35 with 14 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 1.80 points or 0.01% at 22,486.73, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 5.85 points or 0.09%, at 6,727.25.
Sensex Movers
I T C contributed rise of 24.44 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (19.89 points), H D F C Bank (14.6 points), Reliance Industries (14.23 points) and State Bank Of India (9.86 points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 41.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Consultancy Services (23.94 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (15.38 points), Larsen & Toubro (10.27 points) and Wipro (3.4 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (1.52%), Hindalco Industries (1.45%), Tata Motors (1.20%), Tata Steel (1.16%), State Bank Of India (1.16%), and I C I C I Bank (1.11%).
On the other hand, Infosys (2.68%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.03%), Wipro (1.08%), Larsen & Toubro (0.91%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.88%), and Cipla (0.79%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.34% and 0.42% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (1.4%), Allahabad Bank (1.18%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.04%), Alstom India (0.53%) and A B G Shipyard (0.21%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Dr Datsons Labs (1.04%), Trident (0.85%), Action Construction Equipment (0.55%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.52%) and Reliance MediaWorks (0.25%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Bankex index was at 14,522.25, up by 135.80 points or by 0.94%. The major gainers were Bank Of Baroda(2.31%), Federal Bank (0.96%), H D F C Bank (0.82%), Canara Bank (0.76%) and Bank Of India (0.59%).
The Consumer Durables index was at 6,692.75, up by 54.94 points or by 0.83%. The major gainers were V I P Industries (2.78%), Symphony (1.67%), Blue Star (1.17%), Titan Company (1.15%) and Videocon Industries (0.96%).
The Metal index was at 10,143.45, up by 81.78 points or by 0.81%. The major gainers were Hindalco Industries (1.45%), Sesa Sterlite (1.05%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.89%), NMDC (0.87%) and JSW Steel (0.34%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 8,853.32, down by 172.32 points or by 1.91%. The major losers were Infosys (2.68%), Mphasis (1.25%), H C L Technologies (0.52%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.51%) and Hexaware Technologies (0.48%).
Market Breadth
Market breadth was negative with 983 advances against 638 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Adani Enterprises topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 245.49 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 129.94 million), Infosys (Rs. 117.91 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 104.35 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 1.90 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (1.31 million), Punj Lloyd (1.15 million) and Future Retail (0.96 million).
