Sensex opens flat; Wipro up, RIL down

Indian equities flat in early trade on Wednesday snapping earlier losses. At 9.15 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 1.82 points or 0.01% at 22,483.11 with 15 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 13.45 points or 0.20% at 6,719.65 with 31 components falling.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 1.80 points or 0.01% at 22,486.73, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 6,733.10.

Sensex Movers

Reliance Industries contributed fall of 16.86 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I T C (7.08 points), Larsen & Toubro (2.65 points), I C I C I Bank (1.99 points) and Infosys (1.64 points).

However, Tata Consultancy Services contributed rise of 9.67 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (4.97 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (3.25 points), Wipro (3.21 points) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (3.16 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Wipro (1.02%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.82%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.61%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.56%), and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.50%).

On the other hand, Reliance Industries (0.88%), Coal India (0.44%), Hero Motocorp (0.37%), NTPC (0.36%), I T C (0.29%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.24%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.19% and 0.13% respectively.

The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek India (0.97%), A B G Shipyard (0.83%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.73%), Amara Raja Batteries (0.7%) and Allahabad Bank (0.05%).

The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Dr Datsons Labs (11.85%), Hitachi Home and Life Solutions (India) (4.74%), Andrew Yule and Company (3.23%), Ceat (0.57%) and Ballarpur Industries (0.32%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Consumer Durables index was at 6,676.70, up by 38.89 points or by 0.59%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (1.01%), Titan Company (0.95%) and V I P Industries (0.9%).

The IT index was at 9,056.25, up by 30.61 points or by 0.34%. The major gainers were Wipro (1.02%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.82%), Financial Technologies (India) (0.4%), Tech Mahindra (0.14%) and Hexaware Technologies (0.03%).

The TECk index was at 5,023.66, up by 15.22 points or by 0.30%. The major gainers were G T L Infrastructure (1.07%), HT Media (0.56%), Reliance Communications (0.45%), Bharti Airtel (0.42%) and Tech Mahindra (0.14%).

On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 9,581.30, down by 31.08 points or by 0.32%. The major losers were Indian Oil Corporation (100%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (100%), G A I L (India) (100%), Castrol India (100%) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation (0.16%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 230 advances against 86 declines.
