The index of mineral production of mining and quarrying sector for the month of January 2014 was at 136.5.

The total value of mineral production (excluding atomic & minor minerals) in the country during January 2014 was Rs 193.69 billion. The contribution of coal was Rs 69.08 billion, Petroleum (crude) Rs 59.54 billion, iron ore Rs 26.13 billion, natural gas (utilized) Rs 19.07 billion, limestone Rs 4.06 billion and lignite Rs 5.44 billion.

Production level of important minerals in January 2014 were: coal 56.1 million tons, lignite 4.5 million tons, natural gas (utilized) 2,980 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) 3.3 million tons, bauxite 2,287 thousand tons, chromite 294 thousand tons, copper conc. 11 thousand tons, gold 131 kg., iron ore 12.4 million tons, lead conc. 17 thousand tons, manganese ore 218 thousand tons, zinc conc. 120 thousand tons, apatite & phosphorite 147 thousand tons, dolomite 512 thousand tons, limestone 24.6 million tons, magnesite 15 thousand tons and diamond 2,442 carat.

The important minerals production showing growth during January 2014 over January 2013 include 'chromite'(46.7%), 'Magnesite' (26.6%), 'bauxite' (22.5%), 'manganese ore' (11%), 'iron ore' (6.1%), 'lignite' (4.5%), 'petroleum (crude)' (3.0%), 'gold' (0.8%) and 'lead conc.' (0.2%). The other important minerals production showing negative growth are: 'copper conc.' [(-) 0.3%], 'coal' [(-) 0.7%], 'limestone' [(-) 1.0%], 'natural gas (utilized)' [(-) 6.0%], 'dolomite' and 'Zinc conc.' [(-) 19.3] each, 'diamond' [(-) 20.1%] and 'apatite & phosphorite' [(-) 32.2%].
