AirAsia India received its first aircraft at Kamaraj airport, Chennai. The pristine, state-of- art Airbus A320 made its opulent entry in the city.

The aircraft, which landed at 9.25 am from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France, is the first aircraft to be delivered to AirAsia India. While it taxied on the runway upon arrival, it was greeted with a water cannon salute.  Powered by CFM engines, the aircraft is configured in an all economy layout with 180 seats.

Mittu Chandilya, CEO of AirAsia India said, ''AirAsia India family takes immense pride in welcoming home it's first aircraft which has just rolled of the manufacturing line from Toulouse. It is overwhelming to see the AllStar spirit of our employees as they strive towards our dream of offering world-class high-quality, safe, reliable and affordable air travel to everyone on India. The arrival of our first A320 signifies that we are a step closer to our dream to create a new benchmark in the low-cost air travel category. The Indian aviation industry will soon witness a prodigious overhaul with the entry of AirAsia India. As I mentioned in my final pre-flight address to our Ferry Flight crew of Pilots and Engineers ''with this plane you bring home the hopes of all AirAsia India's AllStars and the promise to revolutionize Indian Aviation. Take pride in that honor and safe journey back.''

AirAsia India's fleet will be drawn from the 475 A320 Family aircraft ordered by the AirAsia Group. To date, almost a third of the aircraft on order have already been delivered and are flying  on AirAsia Group's operations out of Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila and now Chennai.

AirAsia India is a joint venture, partnering  AirAsia, Tata Sons and Arun Bathia of Telestra Tradeplace. Currently, AirAsia India is awaiting AOP to start flying commercially.
