Asian markets advance

Asian stocks rose as the yen weakened against the dollar and investors awaited the outcome of a two-day policy meeting by the Bank of Japan that concludes today.

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 rose 38.38 points, or 0.34%, to trade at 10,786.12. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index advanced by 5.47 points, or 0.02%, to trade at 23,596.38.

Taiwan's Taiex index fell 1.79 points, or 0.31%, to trade at 7,732.40. South Korea's Kospi index increased 0.19 points, or 0.01% to trade at 1,987.07. Singapore's Straits Times indexed declined 6.01 points, or to 0.19% trade at 3,215.03 (07.10 a.m., IST).
