Market slightly higher in early trade; Realty, IT gain

Indian markets are trading flat with positive bias in early trade  on Thursday. DLF lead rally in realty stocks with gain of over 2% after reports stated the company plans to sell wind energy business for Rs 9 billion. Meanwhile, HCL Technologies rallied almost 6% after reporting better-than-expected Q3 earnings.

At 10.01 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 39.16 points or 0.20% at 19,856.79 with 14 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 14.40 points or 0.24% at 6,016.25 with 27 components gaining.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 28.79 points or 0.15% at 19,846.42, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 0.60 points or 0.01%, at 6,001.25.

Sensex Movers

Tata Motors contributed rise of 13.84 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (12.59 points), Infosys (9.63 points), Wipro (8.32 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (6.32 points).

However, I T C contributed fall of 7.89 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.8 points), H D F C Bank (3.64 points), Bharti Airtel (2.84 points) and Hindalco Industries (2.71 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Wipro (2.70%), Tata Motors (1.86%), Bajaj Auto (1.08%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.08%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.79%), and Reliance Industries (0.71%).

On the other hand, Hindalco Industries (1.34%), Hero Motocorp (0.92%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.84%), Bharti Airtel (0.55%), G A I L (India) (0.47%), and I T C (0.44%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.32% and 0.40% respectively.

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 2,278.96, up by 34.26 points or by 1.53%. The major gainers were D L F (2.23%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.28%), Anant Raj (0.82%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (0.58%) and Godrej Properties (0.2%).

The IT index was at 6,460.72, up by 68.79 points or by 1.08%. The major gainers were H C L Technologies (5.89%), Tech Mahindra (1.54%), Infosys (0.61%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.45%) and Hexaware Technologies (0.27%).

On the other hand, the Metal index was at 10,800.81, down by 9.46 points or by 0.09%. The major losers were Hindalco Industries (1.34%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.84%), Tata Steel (0.4%), Sesa Goa (0.21%) and Bhushan Steel (0.01%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,112 advances against 674 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

H C L Technologies topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 216.69 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 126.64 million), United Spirits (Rs. 113.81 million) and T T K Prestige (Rs. 111.38 million).

The volume chart was led by Aadhaar Ventures India with trades of over 3.51 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (2.09 million), Ashok Leyland (1.64 million) and Unitech (1.26 million).
