Indian markets gained ground in post noon trade soon after the announcement of RBI policy on Tuesday. The central bank has unexpectedly left CRR unchanged against 25 bps cut widely anticipated the market. The RBI has also kept repo and reverse repo unchanged. Banking, oil & gas and IT stocks declined.
At 02.04 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 128.49 points or 0.67% at 19,372.91 with 25 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 43.75 points or 0.75% at 5,901.65 with 40 components gaining.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 48.59 points or 0.25% at 19,293.01, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 15.70 points or 0.27%, at 5,873.60.
Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 21.79 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Larsen & Toubro (14.38 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (12.37 points), ITC (10.96 points) and Tata Steel (10.17 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed fall of 3.87 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.25 points), Maruti Suzuki India (2.75 points), Tata Consultancy Services (2.17 points) and ACC (0.11 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (4.33%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.58%), Tata Steel (3.22%), Hindalco Industries (2.78%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.40%), and Jindal Steel & Power (1.61%).
On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.08%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.48%), Bajaj Auto (0.40%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.25%), and Reliance Industries (0.22%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps underperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.54% and 0.53% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Amtek India (5.98%), Allahabad Bank (3.05%), Aban Offshore (1.95%), Amtek Auto (1.22%) and AIA Engineering (0.23%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Action Construction Equipment (13.71%), Adhunik Metaliks (6.91%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.66%), Aarti Industries (0.37%) and A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.17%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,114.02, up by 42.57 points or by 2.06%. The major gainers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (2.15%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.96%), DLF (1.95%), Godrej Properties (0.59%) and DB Realty (0.17%).
The Metal index was at 10,948.54, up by 192.93 points or by 1.79%. The major gainers were JSW Steel (5.15%), Hindalco Industries (2.78%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.61%), Bhushan Steel (0.99%) and Coal India (0.18%).
The Capital Goods index was at 11,048.75, up by 147.40 points or by 1.35%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (3.58%), Crompton Greaves (1.58%), Havell'S India (0.64%), ABB (0.61%) and AIA Engineering (0.23%).
On the other hand, the Oil & Gas index was at 8,393.94, down by 6.92 points or by 0.08%. The major losers were Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.48%) and Reliance Industries (0.22%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,568 advances against 1,254 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Jaiprakash Power Ventures topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,640.19 million. It was followed by State Bank Of India (Rs. 1,751.06 million), Tata Steel (Rs. 524.12 million) and United Spirits (Rs. 497.95 million).
The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Power Ventures with trades of over 67.35 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (5.75 million), Kingfisher Airlines (5.25 million) and IFCI (4.37 million).
