Indian equities are trading marginally lower in early trade on on Friday. At 11.08 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 20.97 points or 0.11% at 19,208.29 with 17 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 7.35 points or 0.13% at 5,844.15 with 29 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a decline of 11.30 points or 0.06% at 19,217.96, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 4.60 points or 0.08%, at 5,846.90.
I T C contributed fall of 26.86 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (12.72 points), Bharti Airtel (7.88 points), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (6.53 points) and I C I C I Bank (5.28 points).
However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 13.18 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Motors (10.39 points), Tata Consultancy Services (7.23 points), Larsen & Toubro (6.49 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (4.89 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (1.75%), Tata Motors (1.67%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.97%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.83%), Reliance Industries (0.76%), and Larsen & Toubro (0.60%).
On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (1.58%), I T C (1.39%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.16%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (0.98%), Hero Motocorp (0.93%), and Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.85%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.16% and 0.01% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were A B G Shipyard (1.72%), Alstom India (0.84%), A I A Engineering (0.71%), Amtek India (0.2%) and Aban Offshore (0.01%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Adhunik Metaliks (4.51%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (2.61%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.47%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.32%) and Action Construction Equipment (0.21%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,062.30, up by 15.76 points or by 0.77%. The major gainers were D B Realty (2.42%), Anant Raj (1.69%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.54%), Godrej Properties (0.96%) and D L F (0.79%).
The Auto index was at 11,172.93, up by 76.13 points or by 0.69%. The major gainers were Bharat Forge (1.93%), Ashok Leyland (1.67%), Tata Motors (1.67%), Cummins India (1.35%) and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.97%).
The Metal index was at 10,385.53, up by 54.28 points or by 0.53%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (1.75%), NMDC (1.65%), Hindustan Zinc (1.32%), JSW Steel (0.56%) and Bhushan Steel (0.07%).
On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 7,803.28, down by 58.85 points or by 0.75%. The major losers were C.Mahendra Exports (1.75%), Titan Industries (1.39%), Gitanjali Gems (1.3%), Bajaj Electricals (1.16%) and Blue Star (0.42%).
Market breadth was negative with 1,139 advances against 1,193 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Jet Airways (India) topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 574.10 million. It was followed by Karnataka Bank , The (Rs. 355.18 million), United Spirits (Rs. 293.51 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 185.00 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 5.10 million shares. It was followed by Unitech (2.29 million), Spicejet (2.29 million) and Karnataka Bank , The (2.23 million).
