EC disapproves Veerappa Moily's announcement

The Election Commission on Wednesday strongly disapproved of Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily's announcement of government planning to raise subsidised LPG quota from 6 to 9.  

The poll body had on Tuesday sought a clarification from the Minister on his remarks ahead of Gujarat elections.

As the Minister filed his reply on Wednesday, the commission asked him to be circumspect in future.

After considering Moily's explanation, the Election Commission held that the announcement made by him was a clear violation of both letter and spirit of Model Code of Conduct, but it let him off with a warning.
