Indian equities are likely to open flat on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012. SGX Nifty is trading at 5,937.5 (07.29 am), 11 points higher than Wednesday`s close of 5,926.5.

Asian stocks rose as Japanese exporters advanced after the yen fell to an eight-month low versus the dollar. Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 rose 110.02 points, or 1.15%, to trade at 9,691.48.

The price of oil rose to above USD 86 a barrel on Wednesday as investors expected the Federal Reserve to announce new measures to perk up the U.S. economy. By early afternoon in Europe, benchmark crude for January delivery was up 70 cents to USD 86.49 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

The Federal Reserve's new stimulus program failed to excite skeptical investors, who bid US stocks higher for several hours before they erased those gains to end the day largely unchanged. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished with a decline of 2.99 points, or 0.02%, to 13,245.45.

European stocks closed little changed on Wednesday as investors waited for the Federal Reserve to announce its decisions on interest rates and economic stimulus, while American lawmakers continued talks on a new budget. UK's benchmark index FTSE 100 advanced 20.88 points, or 0.35%, to end at 5,945.85.

In the spot market, the Dollar Index increased 0.17% to 79.94 (20:47 ET).

World commodity prices gained on Wednesday with the increase in Reuters Jefferies CRB Index by 0.46%.
