Asian markets mixed ahead of U.S. Fed meet

Asian stocks swung between gains and losses ahead of a Federal Reserve policy meeting and as investors await progress on U.S. budget talks.

Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 fell 25.69 points, or 0.27%, to trade at 9,508.06. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index advanced by 3.56 points, or 0.03%, to trade at 22,284.40. China's Shanghai Composite decreased 8.92 points, or 0.43% to trade at 2,074.85.

Taiwan's Taiex index fell 21 points, or 0.28%, to trade at 7,588.50. South Korea's Kospi index increased 2.22 points, or 0.12% to trade at 1,959.85. Singapore's Straits Times indexed advanced 13.90 points, or to 0.45% trade at 3,128.24 (07.26 a.m., IST).
