Indian equities are trading flat with negative bias in early trade on Friday erasing earlier gains. At 10.02 a.m., the Sensex was trading down 7.30 points or 0.04% at 19,479.50 with 15 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 3.85 points or 0.06% at 5,927.05 with 26 components falling.
The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 28.08 points or 0.14% at 19,514.88, while the broad based NSE Nifty began flat with a gain of 3.10 points or 0.05%, at 5,934.
I T C contributed fall of 11.63 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Infosys (9.65 points), Hindustan Unilever (6.32 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (6.27 points) and Tata Consultancy Services (5.16 points).
However, Tata Motors contributed rise of 10.33 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (6.88 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (5.61 points), Reliance Industries (5.37 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.39 points).
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (2.72%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.85%), Tata Motors (1.68%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.09%), Tata Power Company (0.97%), and Bharti Airtel (0.57%).
On the other hand, Hindustan Unilever (0.92%), Infosys (0.68%), Sterlite Industries (India) (0.61%), I T C (0.60%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.59%), and Tata Consultancy Services (0.57%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.51% and 0.53% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allahabad Bank(2.01%), A B G Shipyard (1.37%), Alstom India (1.31%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.1%) and Aban Offshore (0.08%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Trident (1.95%), Action Construction Equipment (1.57%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.31%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.16%) and Aarti Industries (0.1%).
Sectors in Limelight
The IPO index was at 1,930.31, up by 22.93 points or by 1.20%. The major gainers were Claris Lifesciences (0.42%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (0.31%), C.Mahendra Exports (0.19%), A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (0.16%) and Flexituff International (0.02%).
The Auto index was at 11,010.62, up by 130.00 points or by 1.19%. The major gainers were Exide Industries (1.67%), Ashok Leyland (0.53%), Hero Motocorp (0.45%), Bharat Forge (0.25%) and Bajaj Auto (0.19%).
The Capital Goods index was at 11,296.26, up by 53.97 points or by 0.48%. The major gainers were Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.85%), Lakshmi Machine Works (1.79%), Alstom India (1.31%), Bharat Electronics (0.84%) and BEML (0.29%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,667.15, down by 33.1 points or by 0.58%. The major losers were Hexaware Technologies (3.95%), Mphasis (1.28%), Oracle Financial Services Software (0.69%), H C L Technologies (0.58%) and CORE Education and Technologies (0.05%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,188 advances against 757 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
Emami topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 319.34 million. It was followed by United Spirits (Rs. 204.41 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 190.17 million) and Tata Motors (Rs. 140.76 million).
The volume chart was led by Kingfisher Airlines with trades of over 4.41 million shares. It was followed by Spicejet (2.61 million), Lanco Infratech (2.23 million) and Unitech (1.98 million).
