Indian equities are likely to open flat on Friday, Dec. 07, 2012. SGX Nifty is trading at 5,984 (07.34 am), 10 points higher than Thursday`s close of 5,974.
Asian stocks gained as fewer Americans filed applications for unemployment benefits and Australia's building industry shrank at a slower pace. Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 rose 17.19 points, or 0.17%, to trade at 9,561.09.
The price of oil fell Thursday after the European Central Bank predicted a bleak year ahead for the region's economy but stopped short of offering new measures to boost growth. Benchmark oil fell USD 1.62, or 1.8%, to finish at USD 86.26 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, which is used to price international varieties of oil, dropped USD 1.78, or 1.6%, to end at USD 107.03 a barrel in London.
US stocks climbed modestly Thursday with an optimistic forecast from Broadcom Corp. bolstering technology shares as investors watched fiscal-cliff negotiations. The Dow Jones Industrial added 39.55 points, or 0.3%, at 13,074.04.
European stocks advanced on Thursday amid optimism U.S. lawmakers will agree on a new budget and avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. UK's benchmark index FTSE 100 advanced 9.34 points, or 0.16%, to end at 5,901.42.
In the spot market, the Dollar Index increased 0.01% to 80.25 (20:51 ET).
World commodity prices fell on Thursday with the decrease in Reuters Jefferies CRB Index by 0.68%.
