Indian equities ended flat with positive bias on Wednesday ahead of crucial vote on FDI in multi-brand retail in the Parliament today evening. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 33.16 points or 0.17% at 19,381.28 with 13 components posting rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 11.25 points or 0.19% at 5,900.50 with 28 components posting rise.
I T C contributed rise of 19.36 points in the Sensex. It was followed by H D F C Bank (17.43 points), Reliance Industries (12.14 points), Sterlite Industries (India) (10.77 points) and State Bank Of India (8.27 points).
However, Infosys contributed fall of 27.23 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Tata Power Company (8.03 points), Wipro (5.73 points), Housing Development Finance Corporation (5.35 points) and Mahindra & Mahindra (4.9 points).
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sterlite Industries (India) (5.56%), Hindalco Industries (3.68%), Tata Steel (2.09%), State Bank Of India (1.20%), Tata Motors (1.14%), and H D F C Bank (1.11%).
On the other hand, Tata Power Company (3.80%), Wipro (2.01%), Infosys (1.94%), Bajaj Auto (1.49%), Jindal Steel & Power (0.96%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (0.95%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Mid & Small-cap Space
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 0.34% and 0.51% respectively.
The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Allahabad Bank(5.14%), Allcargo Logistics (1.47%), A I A Engineering (1.41%), Amtek Auto (0.41%) and A B G Shipyard (0.29%).
The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were Reliance MediaWorks (2.49%), Action Construction Equipment (1.8%), Aarti Industries (0.51%), Styrolution ABS (India) (0.19%) and Trident (0.11%).
Sectors in Limelight
The Realty index was at 2,097.35, up by 55.00 points or by 2.69%. The major gainers were Indiabulls Real Estate (7.18%), D L F (4.21%), Godrej Properties (1.99%), Housing Development and Infrastructure (1.34%) and Oberoi Realty (0.89%).
The Metal index was at 10,568.86, up by 167.78 points or by 1.61%. The major gainers were Sesa Goa (4.87%), Hindalco Industries (3.68%), JSW Steel (2.37%), Steel Authority Of India (2.09%) and NMDC (0.61%).
On the other hand, the IT index was at 5,779.30, down by 71.41 points or by 1.22%. The major losers were Infosys (1.94%), H C L Technologies (1.38%), CORE Education and Technologies (0.74%), Mphasis (0.49%) and Oracle Financial Services Software (0.01%).
Market breadth was positive with 1,709 advances against 1,265 declines.
Value and Volume Toppers
United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,369.26 million. It was followed by United Breweries (Rs. 1,128.56 million), Spicejet (Rs. 866.49 million) and Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 708.57 million).
The volume chart was led by Spicejet with trades of over 17.81 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (6.70 million), G M R Infrastructure (3.79 million) and Reliance Power (3.38 million).
