Indian equities continue to trade in a lackluster manner in post noon session on Monday. Participants booked profits after a massive rally last week. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index outperformed the benchmark indices.   

At 13.10 pm, the Sensex was trading down 19.81 points or 0.10% at 19,320.09 with 15 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 2.95 points or 0.05% at 5,876.90 with 26 components falling.

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 2.93 points or 0.02% at 19,342.83, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a fall of 1.60 points or 0.03%, at 5,878.25.

Sensex Movers

HDFC Bank contributed fall of 32.71 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (13.45 points), ITC (12.34 points), Bharti Airtel (5.54 points) and Grasim Industries (2.84 points).

However, Reliance Industries contributed rise of 14.69 points in the Sensex. It was followed by State Bank Of India (7.93 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (7.73 points), Tata Steel (5.35 points) and Bharat Heavy Electricals (4.6 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jindal Steel & Power (2.06%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.95%), Tata Steel (1.75%), Mahindra & Mahindra (1.43%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.39%), and Hindalco Industries (1.25%).

On the other hand, HDFC Bank (2.10%), Bharti Airtel (1.11%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (0.92%), NTPC (0.83%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.67%), and I T C (0.64%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Mid & Small-cap Space

The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.19% and 1.03% respectively.

The major gainers in the BSE Midcap were Aban Offshore (3.09%), Amtek Auto (3.02%), Allahabad Bank (2.02%), Amara Raja Batteries (1.14%) and Alstom India (0.19%).

The major gainers in the BSE Smallcap were A2Z Maintenance & Engineering Services (12.41%), Action Construction Equipment (2.19%), Styrolution ABS (India) (1.96%), Aanjaneya Lifecare (1.1%) and Aarti Industries (0.32%).

Sectors in Limelight

The Realty index was at 2,029.16, up by 30.80 points or by 1.54%. The major gainers were D B Realty (3.86%), Godrej Properties (3.19%), Anant Raj Industries (1.26%), Indiabulls Real Estate (1.09%) and D L F (0.38%).

The Metal index was at 10,459.74, up by 104.55 points or by 1.01%. The major gainers were Jindal Steel & Power (2.06%), JSW Steel (1.68%), Bhushan Steel (1.61%), Hindalco Industries (1.25%) and Hindustan Zinc (0.79%).

The Power index was at 1,992.89, up by 12.56 points or by 0.63%. The major gainers were Adani Power (3.12%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.95%), Crompton Greaves (1.4%), A B B (0.6%) and Reliance Infrastructure (0.42%).

On the other hand, the Consumer Durables index was at 7,974.78, down by 56.46 points or by 0.7%. The major losers were Titan Industries (1.84%), Rajesh Exports (0.68%), C.Mahendra Exports (0.55%) and Gitanjali Gems (0.49%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 1,628 advances against 1,123 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

United Spirits topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 653.77 million. It was followed by Jet Airways (India) (Rs. 591.92 million), State Bank Of India (Rs. 387.46 million) and PVR (Rs. 384.81 million).

The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 8.22 million shares. It was followed by Suzlon Energy (6.35 million), Spicejet (5.29 million) and Unitech (4.67 million).
