The Sensex is trading off from day`s low of 17,027.52. Auto, consumer durables and teck stocks witnessed buying interest, while metal and FMCG stocks traded lower. Opening of weak European market helped the sentiment.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.18% and 0.42% respectively.

Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading down 45.43 points, or 0.26%, at 17,134.75, after touching a high of 17,230.86 and a low of 17,027.52. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading lower by 18.70 points, or 0.37%, at 5,084.85, after hitting a high of 5,112.85 and a low of 5,053.50. (02.10 p.m.)

Overall market breadth is mixed. Out of the total 2,727 stocks traded at BSE, 1,296 advanced, 1,330 declined while 101 remained unchanged.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE Auto climbed 1.71%, Consumer Durables rose 1.31%, TECk gained 0.68%, IT climbed 0.42% and HC went up 0.30%, while BSE Metal fell 1.02%, Oil & Gas fell 0.83%, FMCG declined 0.81%, Power lost 0.61% and Bankex lost 0.57%.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Maruti Suzuki India (3%), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.92%), Bharti Airtel (2.16%), Hero Honda Motors (2.04%), Tata Motors (1.44%), and Reliance Communications (1.10%).

On the other hand, Tata Steel (2.35%), Reliance Infrastructure (2.15%), ITC (1.95%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.85%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.79%), and ACC (1.49%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
