The Sensex slipped further on heavy selling seen across the board. IT, FMCG, banking, realty and teck stocks led the declines except power.
BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 0.32% and 0.42% respectively.
Indian stock market started the day on a positive zone after a rise of 3.29% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 14 points, at 15,926.13 on Thursday.
Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading down 291.64 points, or 1.83%, at 15,620.49, after touching a high of 15,926.13 and a low of 15,564.89. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading lower by 79.60 points, or 1.69%, at 4,631.20, after hitting a high of 4,714.00 and a low of 4,610.60. (01.15 p.m.)

Overall market breadth is positive. Out of the total 2,571 stocks traded at BSE, 1,304 advanced, 1,180 declined while 87 remained unchanged.
Among the sectoral indices, BSE Power rose 0.11%, while BSE IT declined 2.43%, FMCG fell 2%, Bankex went down 1.65%, Oil & Gas went down 1.3% and Realty dropped 1.28%.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (2.32%), Reliance Communications (1.68%), Hindalco Industries (1.47%), Reliance Capital (1.34%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.15%), and Tata Steel (0.14%).
On the other hand, Larsen & Toubro (3.35%), DLF (3.23%), ITC (3.16%), Infosys Technologies (3.00%), ACC (2.89%), and State Bank Of India(2.88%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
