Unichem Pharma, the flagship division of Unichem Laboratories has obtained a final approval from US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) to market Bisoprodol Fumarate drug on prescription basis.

The said drug would be available in tablet form in the strengths of 5 mg and 10 mg respectively.

Bisoprolol Fumerage tablets USP 5 mg and 10 mg are therapeutically equivalent to Zebeta Tablets USP 5 mg and 10 mg from Duramed Pharmaeuticals. Bisoprolol Fumerate formulations have annual sales of approximately USD 50 million in the US.

Bisoprolol is a widely subscribed molecule in the anti-hypertensive category, the release said.

Shares of the company gained Rs 3.25, or 1.4%, to trade at Rs 235. The total volume of shares traded was 33,637 at the BSE (1.15 p.m., Wednesday).
