Aurobindo Pharma announced that it has received the final approval Carisoprodol Tablets USP 350 mg (ANDA 40-792) from the US Food & Drug Administration (USFDA).

Carisoprodol Tablets USP 350 mg is the generic equivalent to Soma Tablet USP 350b mg of Meda Pharmaceuticals.

Carisoprodol Tablets are muscles relaxants and indicated as an adjunct to rest, physical therapy and other measures for the relief of discomfort associated with acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions.

The product has a market size of approximately USD 98 million for 12 months ending March 2009 according to Newports and would be launched soon.

Aurobindo now has a total 100 ANDA approvals (71 final approvals and 29 tentative approvals) from USFDA. 

Shares of the company declined Rs 25.1, or 4.15%, to trade at Rs 579.25. The total volume of shares traded was 9,839 at the BSE (12.41 p.m., Friday).
