The government has urged industries to focus on research and development (R&D) in nano-technology to translate knowledge generation into wealth generation.

The secretary, department of science and technology, T Ramaswami said Rs 10 billion is being spent for the development of this technology and asked the industry to come forward and take advantage of this opportunity.

Ramaswami also called for evolving public-private partnership and asserted that research and development efforts in this area have to focus on providing solutions to various social problems.

He urged the captains of industry to play their role to bring the nano-technology products to market by working with various other stake holders.

Several internationally reputed experts while participating in the conclave stressed the need to ensure that nanotechnology is an effective tool to address the global climatic concerns.

The conclave concluding on April 15 will prepare a blue print for dealing with the challenges of research and development in this sun-rise sector of economy.
