Orchid gets USFDA approval for Cefuroxime

The Chennai-based pharma major, Orchid Chemicals (Q, N,C,F)* & Pharmaceuticals (Orchid) announced that it has received approvals from the US FDA for 3 of its ANDAs (Abbreviated New Drug Application) for Cefuroxime.

The drug would be available in injection form in infusion packs of 750 mg and 1.5 g vials. Additionally, pharmacy bulk pack of 7.5 g and 1.5 g vial will also be available.

Cefuroxime an antibiotic resistant to most betalactamases and active against a wide range of gram-positive and gram -negative organisms is used in treating meningitis caused by H. influenzae, meningcocci an pneumococcoi.

Cumulatively, Orchid has secured 28 ANDA approvals.

Shares of the company gained Rs 0.5, or 0.33%, to trade at Rs 152. The total volume of shares traded was 112,821 at the BSE (1.50 p.m., Thursday).
