GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (GSK) has brought into the country Boostrix and Infanrix, two of its new innovative vaccines indicated for Diphtheria, Tetanus and acellular Pertussis (DTP), reports Business Line.

Unlike traditional vaccines, acellular vaccines provide more comfort to children due to reduced pain, fever and swelling, a GSK note said. Both products are priced at Rs 699 and will be imported from the GSK Biologicals plant in Belgium. Acellular DTP vaccines are part of routine immunization in over 100 developed and developing countries.

Infanrix is indicated for childhood immunization against DTP for newborns from the sixth week. And when combined with Hepatitis B vaccines it reduces the number of pricks and visits to the doctor. Boostrix is administered to children above seven years, adolescents and adults and helps boost the waning immunity against DTP.

Shares of the company closed up Rs 40.8, or 4.99%, at Rs 858.5. The total volume of shares traded at the BSE was 7,883. (Friday)
