Source: IRIS (21 March 2007) Rupee continues to gain, RBI reference rate at 43.63/USDThe Rupee continues to go strong against USD Mar. 21, backed by cash squeeze in the domestic banking system, which forced banks to sell Dollar for Rupee. The Reserve Bank of India`s reference rate for the US Dollar, was recorded at Rs 43.63 on Mar. 21, as against Rs 43.98 on the earlier day. The domestic currency gathered gains against Euro. The Rupee gained 41 paise to get quoted at 58.08 per Euro on Mar. 21. After gaining 17 paise against Japanese Yen, the Rupee was quoted at 37.20 for hundred units of Japanese Yen on Mar. 21. The exchange rate was Rs 37.37 for hundred units of Japanese Yen on the previous day. The Rupee remained steady against Great Britain Pound at 85.5802 a GBP on Mar. 21 (Rs 85.5802 a GBP on Mar. 20). The reference rate is based on 12 noon rates of a few select banks in Mumbai while the exchange rates of GBP and Japanese Yen against the Rupee are based on the reference rate for US Dollar and middle rates of the cross currency quoted at 12 noon * Q - Quote , N - News , C - Chart , F - Financials
