BHEL commissions 120 MW Pulichintala hydro-electric project

Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has successfully commissioned the 120 MW Pulichintala Hydro-Electric Project (HEP) in Telangana. The other three units of the 4x30 MW Pulichintala HEP, commissioned earlier by BHEL, have been operating successfully.

Located in Suryapet district of Telangana, the greenfield project has been set up for Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TSGENCO) on the river Krishna. Power generation from Pulichintala HEP will contribute significantly in reduction of greenhouse gas emissions towards achieving a low carbon development path for the nation.

BHEL was entrusted with execution of the Electro-Mechanical (E&M) package for the project comprising supply and supervision of erection & commissioning of 4 sets of Vertical Kaplan Turbines and Generators of 30 MW capacity each along with the associated auxiliary equipment. The equipment for the project has been manufactured and supplied by BHEL's units at Bhopal, Jhansi, Rudrapur and Bengaluru, while the erection & commissioning on site has been carried out under the supervision of the company's Power Sector Southern Region construction division.

BHEL has made significant contribution to the hydro power sector of Telangana and has commissioned 1,073 MW of hydro projects in the state so far. Some of the large rating hydro projects commissioned by BHEL in Telangana are Nagarjuna Sagar PSS & Srisailam Left Bank Power House. Notably, in addition to hydro power projects, BHEL has also commissioned seven Lift Irrigation Schemes (LIS) of various ratings aggregating to 521 MW, comprising 25 Pump-Motor sets. BHEL is presently executing another 40 Pump-Motor sets of 5,356 MW, including Palamuru Rangareddy LIS Stage-2 & 3 of 2,610 MW (2 stages of 9x145 MW each), in the state.

BHEL is presently executing Hydro-electric projects of more than 2,700 MW across the country, in addition to 3,904 MW abroad which includes 2,940 MW in Bhutan and 900 MW in Nepal, which are under various stage of implementation. Significantly, more than 500 hydro-electric generating sets of various ratings have been ordered on BHEL in India and abroad with a cumUlative capacity of more than 30,000 MW. Out of this, equipment for about 6,680 MW generating capacity are for projects overseas. BHEL's hydro plants are successfully performing in India and across the world, including countries like Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Malaysia, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Rwanda, Thailand, New Zealand, Nepal and Vietnam.

Shares of the company gained Rs 0.05, or 0.07%, to trade at Rs 69.95. The total volume of shares traded was 270,694 at the BSE (12.47 p.m., Monday).
