US stock markets closed mixed on Wednesday as financial stocks ended a seven-day rally with a sharp drop, but gains in technology stocks helped as investors continued to work on preparing their portfolios for a Donald Trump presidency.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 54.92 points or 0.29 percent to settle at 18,868.14. The broader S&P 500 index fell 3.45 points or 0.16 percent to end at 2,176.94.

On the other hand, NASDAQ 100 index gained 27.79 points or 0.58 percent to close at 4,792.27.
