US stock markets closed higher on Tuesday as a post-election rally extended into the new year, even as some investors warned they need to see results from President-elect Donald Trump before pushing stock prices significantly higher.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 119.16 points or 0.6 percent to settle at 19,881.76. NASDAQ 100 index went up 47.71 points or 0.98 percent to close at 4,911.33. The broader S&P 500 index went up 19.00 points or 0.85 percent to end at 2,257.83.
