US stocks end mixed after Trump fires FBI chief

US stock markets settled mixed on Wednesday as investors digested a batch of weak corporate earnings and President Donald Trump's dismissal of the FBI chief.

NASDAQ 100 index gained 3.37 points or 0.06 percent to close at 5,681.68. The broader S&P 500 index gained 2.71 points, or 0.11 percent, to 2,399.63.

On the other hand, The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 32.67 points or 0.16 percent to settle at 20,943.11.
