Sensex up over 270 points; Nifty hits 10,100

Indian markets continued to rise for the second day on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 11.32 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 273.42 points or 0.84% at 32,655.88 with 24 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 89.65 points or 0.89% at 10,110.30 with 41 components gaining.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (3.88%), GAIL (India) (1.49%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.24%), HDFC Bank (1.24%), Hindustan Unilever (1.17%), and ICICI Bank (1.13%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (1.68%), Cipla (0.66%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.24%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.19%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (0.08%), and NTPC (0.06%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 1,079 advances against 1,056 declines.

Indiabulls Real Estate topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 818.12 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 790.05 million), Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 724.78 million) and Bajaj Finserv (Rs. 309.38 million).

The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 15.69 million shares. It was followed by Jaiprakash Associates (7.58 million), G T L Infrastructure (7.02 million) and Birla Cotsyn (India) (6.36 million).
