Sensex rises 174 points; Nifty above 10,000

Indian equities continued to gain for the second day on Thursday. Both Sensex and Nifty were trading at a new life time high. At 9.27 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 174.62 points or 0.54% at 32,557.08 with 23 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 46.25 points or 0.46% at 10,066.90 with 41 components gaining.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.52%), GAIL (India) (1.09%), Infosys (0.90%), State Bank Of India (0.86%), Axis Bank (0.86%), and Asian Paints (0.83%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (1.00%), Cipla (0.92%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.46%), Tata Steel (0.21%), and Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (0.13%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 917 advances against 398 declines.

Natco Pharma topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 146.96 million. It was followed by H C L Technologies (Rs. 122.44 million), Jaiprakash Associates (Rs. 46.65 million) and Reliance Capital (Rs. 46.33 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 1.59 million shares. It was followed by I V R C L (1.34 million), Gujarat N R E Coke (1.28 million) and Alok Industries (1.16 million).
