Indian equities gained momentum in the post noon trade on Wednesday led by gains in healthcare and FMCG stocks. At 1.22 p.m., the Sensex was trading up 102.82 points or 0.37% at 28,060.31 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 18.10 points or 0.21% at 8,509.10 with 36 components gaining.
Major gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (4.28%), Hindalco Industries (2.44%), Bharti Airtel (1.87%), I T C (1.40%), Hindustan Unilever (1.26%), and I C I C I Bank (1.17%).
On the other hand, Infosys (2.31%), Maruti Suzuki India (1.52%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.47%), G A I L (India) (1.45%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.47%), and Reliance Industries (0.44%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
The BSE Mid and small caps outperformed their larger counterparts gaining 1.05% and 1.61% respectively.
The HC index was at 17,603.96, up by 319.02 points or by 1.85%. The FMCG index was at 7,861.79, up by 88.35 points or by 1.14%. On the other hand, the IT index was at 11,247.35, down by 156.77 points or by 1.37%.
