Sensex gains 70 points, Nifty above 10,000

Indian equities bounced back on Thursday snapping earlier losses. At 9.43 a.m, the Sensex was trading up 69.36 points or 0.22% at 31,903.35 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 25.80 points or 0.26% at 10,010.60 with 30 components gaining.

Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (2.43%), NTPC (1.14%), Reliance Industries (1.02%), Hero Motocorp (0.95%), Tata Consultancy Services (0.86%), and Tata Steel (0.85%).

On the other hand, Bharti Airtel (0.99%), Coal India (0.83%), Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (0.65%), Asian Paints (0.51%), Tata Motors (0.43%), and ICICI Bank (0.41%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,094 advances against 463 declines.

Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 156.15 million. It was followed by Indiabulls Real Estate (Rs. 140.70 million), T V S Electronics (Rs. 125.38 million) and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (Rs. 81.65 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 0.99 million shares. It was followed by South Indian Bank , The (0.73 million), JSW Energy (0.66 million) and Sanwaria Consumer (0.64 million).
