Indian equities dropped on Friday erasing earlier gains. At 10.01 a.m, the Sensex was trading down 218.64 points or 0.69% at 31,576.82 with 22 components falling. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading lower by 63.50 points or 0.64% at 9,840.65 with 40 components falling.
Major losers in the 30-share index were Infosys (6.59%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.73%), Bharat Heavy Electricals (1.28%), Housing Development Finance Corporation (1.22%), Tata Motors (1.16%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (1.14%).
On the other hand, Tata Consultancy Services (1.89%), ITC (1.43%), GAIL (India) (0.95%), Hindustan Unilever (0.68%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.56%), and Cipla (0.27%) were the biggest gainers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 454 advances against 1,155 declines.
Infosys topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,134.85 million. It was followed by Housing Development Finance Corporation (Rs. 481.97 million), Centrum Capital (Rs. 316.66 million) and Tata Consultancy Services (Rs. 211.10 million).
The volume chart was led by Lanco Infratech with trades of over 5.38 million shares. It was followed by Centrum Capital (4.69 million), Jaiprakash Associates (2.79 million) and Meghmani Organics (2.03 million).
