Sensex ends 759 points lower; Nifty settles at 10,234-level

Indian markets ended lower on Thursday erasing earlier gains. Both Sensex and Nifty traded below 6-month low. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex declined 759.74 or 2.19% at 34,001.15 with 27 components posting drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 225.45 or 2.16% at 10,234.65 with 48 components posting drop.

Major losers in the 30-share index were State Bank Of India (5.74%), Tata Steel (4.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra (4.44%), Tata Power Company (3.92%), Infosys (3.61%), and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (3.31%).

On the other hand, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (2.86%), and Hindustan Unilever (0.75%) were the major gainers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was negative with 770 advances against 1,552 declines.

Yes Bank topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 1,743.07 million. It was followed by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (Rs. 1,249.14 million), Reliance Industries (Rs. 833.67 million) and Indiabulls Housing Finance (Rs. 753.91 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 12.86 million shares. It was followed by South Indian Bank , The (8.63 million), Yes Bank (7.26 million) and Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (4.32 million).
