Indian markets ended lower on Tuesday erasing earlier gains. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex lost 72.46 or 0.21% at 34,771.05 with 18 components registering drop. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went down by 41.10 or 0.38% at 10,700.45 with 38 components registering drop.
Biggest gainers in the 30-share index were Wipro (4.88%), Infosys (3.93%), Tata Consultancy Services (3.77%), ICICI Bank (1.43%), Dr Reddy'S Laboratories (1.38%), and Hindustan Unilever (1.04%).
On the other hand, Coal India (4.57%), Reliance Industries (2.54%), Tata Motors (2.30%), Tata Steel (2.16%), and ITC (2.06%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Market breadth was negative with 723 advances against 2,000 declines.
Bharti Airtel topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 19,447.28 million. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 1,519.53 million), Power Grid Corporation Of India (Rs. 1,039.67 million) and HDFC FMP - 1132 D - February 2016 (1) - Series 35 - Direct Plan - Growth (Rs. 981.00 million).
The volume chart was led by HDFC FMP - 1132 D - February 2016 (1) - Series 35 - Direct Plan - Growth with trades of over 100.00 million shares. It was followed by Bharti Airtel (39.14 million), Uttam Value Steels (16.57 million) and Kotak FMP Series 131 - Regular Plan - Growth (15.00 million).
