Sensex ends 461 points higher; Nifty settles at 10,460-level

Indian equities ended lower on Wednesday snapping earlier losses. At the close, the benchmark 30-share index, BSE Sensex gained 461.42 or 1.35% at 34,760.89 with 23 components registering rise. Meanwhile, the broad based NSE Nifty went up by 159.05 or 1.54% at 10,460.10 with 41 components posting rise.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Axis Bank (6.62%), State Bank Of India (5.88%), Maruti Suzuki India (4.77%), ICICI Bank (4.18%), and Kotak Mahindra Bank (2.66%).

On the other hand, Infosys (2.38%), Tata Consultancy Services (2.27%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (1.12%), Wipro (1.05%), Coal India (0.26%), and Cipla (0.24%) were the biggest losers in the Sensex.

Market breadth was positive with 1,809 advances against 550 declines.

Tata Consultancy Services topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 3,954.14 million. It was followed by Yes Bank (Rs. 1,019.52 million), Infosys (Rs. 755.15 million) and Maruti Suzuki India (Rs. 671.28 million).

The volume chart was led by Jaiprakash Associates with trades of over 13.14 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (7.10 million), South Indian Bank , The (4.60 million) and Adani Power (4.42 million).
